About Me

My photo
Bakersfield, CA, United States
Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

4.9

So today Hans is a 4.9. This means we should get the foley taken out tomorrow, possibly even today. Here is how I see him from the anti room, reflected in a mirror, behind the lead-lined sheild.

We have been enjoying the city a little bit in shifts. We've walked/jogged through Golden Gate park, and here's a pic of Elle trying to slide down the slide at the Koret Children's Playground. This is easily my favorite playground we've ever been to! We brought Elle here a couple of times when she was a toddler and we lived in Santa Cruz. I once read that this is the oldest playground in the country. Pretty sweet. Elle went tried out her new jogging shoes they picked up at Nike Town/Union Square.

Elle and her friend Madi had a party to get to in Bakersfield Friday night before they could join us up here.

Hans is doing his time. He doesn't have much of an appetite, but we have a fridge stocked with a few of his favorite things. We are trying to keep his things handy, but he says nothing tastes good to him. Should change in a couple days, I hope!

I checked out of the Family House this morning. Ready to hit the road as soon as we get the magic word!

Praying that magic words come very sooooon. Thank you for sharing the photo of how you see Hans through the mirror reflection. It was such an eye opener as far as learning about MIBG -- that really must be tough on both of you. Keep the faith and strength going and know that you are in the home stretch!
