About Me

Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

Scans...

Hi,
Well, we have no results yet, of course. But, Hans completed his CT and Bone Scan yesterday. We also went in Monday for the GFR (kidney test). Hans did very well on our long day yesterday. The Bone Scan process went well, and the CT was a little rough - getting him to drink the contrast and sitting in this terrible room from 7 am til they finally got us 10:30am, but he did alright. The little hospital miracle yesterday was that the people down in the basement in Nuclear Medicine were able to bump his Bone Scan up two hours! This was great - as it alleviated two hours of down time. We were able to go right down for his injection after the CT. That way he could remove the IV immediately and not wait around with it. We went to lunch and came back for the Bone Scan at 1pm and were done by 2pm, and home in time to meet Elle off the bus. Our next scan is the MIBG (full body scan) and the Echo on Weds/Thurs next week. We may not hear back on the results until next Thursday!
Of course we are on needles and pins awaiting the results. But, all we keep saying is that Hans really has been doing well. The other day he actually RAN all the way home from the little park down the street. I don't think I've ever seen him move quite like that. He's also still working on his dance moves. He calls the boom box we got him for his b-day his "dancer" and he had me bring it down to the living room yesterday for dance time! I was amazed at his energy level after our long day at TCH!
The service for Carlie happened on Tuesday. It was lovely and painful. It really hits you how many lives are touched by each and every child. It just kills me that we're still so far from understanding why Neuroblastoma happens to our kids, and how to treat it better. If you'd like, you can go online to www.lunchforlife.org and give up a lunch in Carlie' Edgington's honor. It has been truly impressive how many have gone online to give over the course of this past week.

Don't let scan time drive you crazy. If you start getting tense, just grab Hans and dance!
