We had a LONG day at the clinic yesterday! We arrived for the GFR at 9 am. That went smoothly! Yeah, Hans! Thanks for being a good sport! The results came back today as "normal". Yeah!
After the GFR we could go up to the clinic for counts. We found out that Hans' blood counts were really low again. Unfortunately, it was already 3pm by the time we found out that he needed both red blood cells and platelets. The clinic doesn't start blood transfusions after 2:30, I found out.
So - we had time to go down to the 5th floor for Hans' audiogram before they figured out where to send him to get blood. Hans was pretty much an audiogram drop-out. He refused to really participate in any of the tests - and I was starting to worry about his getting upset, because with his low platelets he can get pretty bad nose bleeds if he gets really worked up. Anyway - the audiologist cancelled the testing and rescheduled our appointment for March 1st. I am hoping he'll be a bit more cooperative at a 9am appointment. Kevin and I aren't too worried about his hearing. We give him unofficial whisper tests all the time and he catches every word.
Then, we went back up to the clinic, to wait and wait and wait for a room or a place to receive blood. They finally sent us to a place called Short Stay and they got his blood going by 8pm. We were on our way home at 1am this morning. It was a long haul yesterday, but it was good to wake up here this morning.
Thankfully, Kevin was at home with Elle in the afternoon - and they received a lovely hot meal from someone from St. Anthony's. The St. Anne's society has done an amazing service for us. They have set up 5 months of meals delivered to our house on M, W, F! It has been awesome! We so appreciate it! The meals have been nutritious and delicious. It has been very helpful in saving time with meal planning and preparation. You never really plan on staying at the clinic until 1am! Thank you to everyone who has lent a hand, or cooked a meal, or stepped up to help us out one way or another. It has been amazing.
The good news is that Hans is sort of enjoying being a homebody this month. He is just eating a lot, staying home, doing art projects and watching his shows. He doesn't even push us to go outside these days. It's like he knows what he needs right now, and with his white counts so low - it's best for him to just lay low and recover.
We actually go back in for counts on Thursday - but we don't have any more scans or test until next week. Hans' godmother, Roxie, comes in tomorrow from California for a visit and to help out. We'll have fun with her and she'll get to check out the clinic on Thursday.
Happy Valentine's Day

About Me
- Hans Weberling
- Bakersfield, CA, United States
- Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

We all hope the day is as fun as it can be -- that you all eat lots and lots of chocolates and that the little cupid is good to you! We love you.
