About Me

Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

We are feeling pretty good

So, we have now been up on the ninth floor for one night. It is good to be there. I feel like we are able to sort of unpack and move in. We are just most comfortable there since it's all Oncology/Hematology and you don't feel like you have to be hypervigilant about each and every procedure. They do some things differently for Oncology kids - and they know it best on the 9th floor. We've been through a lot this past week, but Hans continues to amaze us. He hasn't been crying or complaining very much throughout all of this - he just sort of gets quiet and intense through the worst of it.
I want everyone to know that he is looking really really good. His Respiratory Rate is starting to come down and his belly swelling is finally starting to lessen. I guess our prayers are working!
We just need to see Hans get a little bit better and he can charge ahead with Round Five of Chemo, and then get HOME once again! Round Five of chemo is a 6 day round, so we'll still be here for a while. Hans' doctor is thinking he should be ready to start that by Monday - but, we'll see...
We'll keep you posted!
Lara

What great news! Hans is truly a brave soul who is fighting with courage and strength WAY beyond his 3 and a half years. He continues to amaze us with his irrepressible spirit - a wonderful blessing from God!
I hope you can take this next couple of days to rest up and take a break before Chemo.
I love you!
