About Me

Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

Sweet Lily

Today I learned of the loss of dear sweet Lily. I'm still whirling from her story. Lily had a fabulous Kindergarten Year (Off Treatment! NED!) and turned up at CHOP in July to scan just a bit early b/c of a few suspicious symptoms. Hans and Lily were on the CT scanner on the SAME DAY back on July 19th. Her scans showed progressive disease. Lily rushed back home to celebrate her 6th birthday in NC. At one point, Lily and Hans were slated to start the ALK trial on the same day (Aug 3rd). We considered sharing a beach house on the shore and living it up. Well, both Lily and Hans' plans were to change. Lily started radiation. But then, everything happened very fast and it was time for her to go home.

Ashton, Lily's amazing mom, has truly blown my mind. She has cherished each moment with her daughter and looked for the silver lining. Lily didn't suffer and is now free of pain and free of cancer. Please add her and her sweet family to your prayers tonight.

PS - we are simply having a restful, productive weekend at home. Hans is okay. He is still seeing double and has had a couple of headaches, but no more back pain! He has burned through his birthday gift cards and has completed about 14 new Bionicles this weekend! He is thrilled. He is gonna need a bigger shelf;) Thank you to everyone who has sent cards, birthday cards and care packages. Soo sweet - we are feeling the love!

May Lily's love continue to bloom and grow as her family holds on to the sweetness, joy, and strength she shared with family, friends, and those who have followed her remarkable life.

So pleased the weekend at home has been enjoyed!

Love and hugs,
