About Me

Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

Fever Fever!

Well, here we sit. I was a little too wiped out to update last night. We were cruising along happily all weekend, or rather frantically, with an 'away' soccer tournament and Kevin and I each being in the middle of house projects, and me getting ready for a big Bead a Thon coming up next weekend.... AND THEN... Kevin noticed Hans was HOT at 4:30 am on Sunday. So - long story short...ER run #1...labwork (fine), IV antibiotics, chest xray(normal), flu test (negative), urine test (negative) blood culture (neg so far), IV Hydrocortizone for the Adrenal insufficiency, and Fluids (fluids always seem to help this kid!) sent home, a little more fever, took a little tyelnol...AND THEN... wake up, get another fever! So, here we are ... ER run # 2. More labs, more antibiotics. We'll see what they do with us this time. It's probably just a virus, but when you have a Port or a Central Line, you have to get to the hospital fast in the event that you have a line infection. We've been down that road twice... don't want to replay that scene. So, we are extremely compliant and by-the-book with fever. There are sure a lot of other things we'd rather be doing... but I'm trying to have the right attitude. I'm trying to just be grateful to these nurses and docs and to this facility for always being right here when our special little guy needs them. It may not be the coziest place to spend two 8 - 10 hour days, but thank God we can come here and get all patched up when we need to!

Darn it. I always jinx myself with loud public proclaimations of health, extra free time, and energy then BAM hello inpatient fever city. With Hans' off the hook ANC lately I bet you'll be home in no time! Peaceful waiting to you and speedy recovery to Hans.
