About Me

Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

"Love me some Hans!"

Hans had a good visit to the clinic today. He gives such good hugs to everyone up there and his famous pat, too! It's pretty cute. Cynthia, one of the nurses said it best today, "Love me some Hans!" Poor Dr. Russell still doesn't get hugs quite yet, but she gets high fives. I guess Hans is still just a touch traumatized by what she had to put him through.

It was a little strange - I got another story on the counts today. I guess I had gotten the numbers wrong from the nurses last week. His HGB was really 13.8 (not 12.1) and this week it was 15.4?!? It's high - but not to the point they get too concerned or consider treating him for it. We'll watch it with more blood draws in 2 weeks. The current plan is to get through this round of scans and then in February we'll all reassess the Accutane decision.

Hans is doing really well right now (knock on wood - I hate to say that out loud or on the blog!) and everyone admires his curls. He's also perfectly happy to be staying at home with mommy right now. I think he'd be happy to do it one more year before heading off to Kindergarten... it works for me, too!

Please keep our little Carlie in your prayers and thoughts these days. She's going through some changes in her treatment plan which is always unsettling. Thanks.

Lara
