About Me

Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

Update from the surgeon

So, Kevin and I met with the surgeon yesterday. We want everyone to know that we feel extremely confident in our surgeon, Dr. Nuchtern. I just think he seems pretty incredible and I feel so fortunate that Hans will be in his hands for this intricate procedure. We found out that the surgery will take all day, and that Hans will likely be on a ventilator, and have a feeding tube and a catheter for a few days after the surgery. He reassured us that his recovery will be harder on us than it will be on Hans, since Hans will be heavily sedated and won't remember much of it. So we have a week at home before a long haul - after Hans is recovered from surgery he'll go right into Round V of Chemo - but by that point we'll be over the halfway point in this part of the treatment plan.

Kevin, Lara, Elle and Hans,
Please know that although your family and friends can't be with you on the 18th we will be praying and will keep Hans and you in our thoughts throughout this phase of treatment.
Hans is determined to be well and this is an important step in his journey.
We love you.
