Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.

Hans is out of surgery! Hip Hip Hooray--

Just received a call from Lara and Hans made it out of surgery about 6p! He's doing really good and not on the ventilator. She said he's really really 'out of it'. Lara said he even said something to her. :o) They are so excited it is all over. Right now the doctors are arranging for him to be moved to the 7th floor which is for patients needing progressive care. They'll closely monitor him through the night and tomorrow. The surgeon said it went well without any complications!

I was with Lara and Kevin during alot of the day today and they were handling this extremely well in my eyes, so very calm. Even Elle was being a trooper. The nurse would call Kevin's cell with updates about every 1-1/2 hours. He was stable throughout and everything went along exactly as the surgeon had hoped. They began the operation at about 10:00a. Around 3:40p today they called with an update that the tumor was removed successfully. They were so happy to hear this. After removing the tumor they pressed on thoroughly checking all of the areas - for example, his liver -doing ultrasounds, sending samples to the pathologist all time consuming but had to be done in order to check for any remnant of cancer. The surgeon is extremely confident he removed it all.

I'm so thrilled for them as I know everyone reading this is. Way to go Hans! WE LOVE YOU SO!
Keep praying,
Carmen
