Kevin just phoned to say that Hans has been transferred out of PICU and is back in the Progressive Care Unit. His new room number is #728 so be sure to send him a card from the TCH web site.
Kevin also said that Hans has been more comfortable and alert today. He's still retaining some fluids but is looking better each day. The doctors did find that Hans has pneumonia in the right lung which has been contributing to his elevated respiratory rate. The good news though is that the antibiotics that he has been on for the last five days are the same as those used to treat the pneumonia so they will just continue treatment for another five days or so.
Lara and Kevin are optimistic that Hans will be transferred to the oncology floor (the ninth floor) in the next few days. As soon as Hans is well enough he will begin his next five days of chemo in this phase of treatment. He will then get a couple of weeks off to recover before starting phase two of his treatment plan. This will involve more chemo, radiation and his stem cell transplant.
Hans has shown such strenght (as have Lara, Kev and Elle) - we're confident he will fight his way through phase two as he has through phase one. Thanks to all of you for holding Hans, Lara, Kevin and Elle in your hearts and prayers.
Kathy (Kev's mom)
About Me
- Hans Weberling
- Bakersfield, CA, United States
- Hans was a busy, happy, sweet and fearless three year old when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He fought his disease like a "gladiator" for nearly 6 years. Hans was an animal lover to his core. He was 'guarded' at home by his three cats, Black, Orange and Cotton. He also had his Golden Retriever, Honey, to keep him company. Hans enjoyed swimming, biking, gardening, grilling (he had his very own grill!), horseback riding, playing video games, building Legos, and flipping between Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Animal Planet. Hans loved all members of his family and he was a loyal friend. He had to go through a lot of treatment in his life. But Hans powered through it. His attitude was let's get this done! His motivation was always to get back home, to his family, pets, favorite foods and pool.
